About Herndon

Herndon is a town in Fairfax County, Virginia, in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area of the United States. The early settlement was named Herndon in 1858, after Commander William Lewis Herndon. Located in western Fairfax County, Herndon is just 22 miles from downtown Washington, DC and just minutes from Washington Dulles International Airport. 


Packed with outstanding recreational activities, the award-winning Herndon Community Center offers many programs and events. Enjoy the town's 11 parks or take a hike on the W&OD Trail, which runs through the heart of downtown Herndon. Or spend a day on the links at the Herndon Centennial Golf Course, named one of Golf Digest's "Places to Play."
